All workers engaged in performing services in the home
When it comes to organising, the IWW knows no boundaries - different countries, and different types of work are all respected equally. Domestic workers perform a vital task for a large number of people around the UK and Ireland, with cleaners, nannies, au pairs, cooks, babysitters, homeless shelter workers, and many others, often being sidelined. Recently, the mainstream unions have recognised cleaners for businesses are important, but continue to ignore domestic workers, even though their pay and conditions are often comparable or worse than their commercial counterparts. The IWW says that all workers deserve dignity and respect, and the only way to win is by workers joining together and taking control collectively.
We welcome all domestic workers, including housewives and house-husbands. If you wish to organise at your work with workers like you, then join up, and get in touch with your local branch.
